Good afternoon to all of our lovely followers. We hope you’re all having a good start to the week. We’re here with another instalment of our Member Monday feature and this week brings us a little about HBW Member, Sarah Rathbone, together with the most fantastic picture of Sarah in action!!
Hi All. Let me Introduce myself. I am Sarah Rathbone and I am the founder of Cairngorm Confidence Outdoors Community Interest Company and Tranquil Trails Mountain Biking, based in the Cairngorms National Park.
I specialise in 1:1 buddy supported outdoor activities, with mountain biking as the focus, specifically designed to support those finding group activity inaccessible and are being supported for their mental health and wellbeing to become active, with confidence. I have met many who say “I would love to do what you do, but I can’t because ……………………”. I know I can remove many of those barriers that cause the “because”, due to my own lived experience. I successfully received £21,000 funding from First Port Scotland and the HTSI Community Mental Health and Wellbeing Fund. Supported members of the local community can come out on the trails and borrow both ebikes and standard bikes, by donating what they can. I also advertise in the Cairngorm National Park and take out full fee-paying riders to support the CIC.
At 52, recovering from a serious knee injury and facing the challenges of menopause, you could say that I decided to do some hard core CPD for myself, to support those around me, as I wasn’t going to let injury, life stage, or other people’s attitudes beat me. I am now a British Cycling Level 2 Mountain Bike Leader and British Weightlifting Level 2 Olympic Weightlifting Coach.
